Thank you for your reply Emily.

Re CIFAS website. Sadly my experience is what they say happens is not what actually happens.

Re Protective registration . A credit card company has already done that for me and this is the root cause of the problem.

Protection from further fraud? – I agree with – if I cannot get credit anymore – a fraudster should not be able to either but this is a harsh way of fraud prevention I feel.

The fact is that if CIFAS and their members did what their own guidelines stated – this system should work – the fact is though that their members see the CIFAS flag and run a mile – an experience shared with a lot of other people I have found after a quick search on the net.

CIFAS need to investigate this issue urgently.

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. Since I don't know the exact details of your situation, I can only offer this: http://www.cifas.org.uk/default.asp?edit_id=808-85. You could request Protective Registration with CIFAS. This can cause delay if you try and apply for credit and other services, but at least you'll be protected from any further fraud.

Please keep me posted on your situation and I'll be happy to research and find things you can do to fix the problem.

Thanks for sharing!

Well our experience is somewhat different.

Having been an innocent victim of fraud, having been placed on the CIFAS list by the credit card company involved in the fraud, we have been unable to get a new credit card (applications "mysteriously" disappear off the card operator's system as if they were never made - they never get to the point of requiring us to provide the extra ID).

Can't even open an Experian account now to check what is happening to our credit without sending valuable original ID documents through the post. Actually feel more of a victim than ever - it feels as if we are the criminals!
