Daily Definition – Packaged Accounts
Posted on 01. Jun, 2009 by reecegriffiths in Daily Finance Definitions
Unlike a free current account, packaged accounts (also known as packaged current accounts) offer additional services to the account holder for a monthly fee. The services offered range from car breakdown service, credit card protection and even travel insurance. Packaged accounts come with a debit card and overdraft facilities like a current account, but the monthly fee will entitle you to the available services.
It is important that you research the services that are offered for any of the packaged accounts you might consider signing up for before you agree to the monthly fee. Make sure that you will use the services offered in the programme so that you are not wasting the pounds on the monthly fee for something that does not fit your lifestyle. If you are a frequent traveller, the travel insurance and car breakdown service might be a great benefit!

I currently have a basic account but I overdraft regularly and it’s beginning to cost me quite a lot of money. Would a packaged account help me with this problem?

Elizabeth, you might want to look into a managed bank account until you stop having problems with your overdraft. Having a managed bank account is a great way to learn how to manage your money and regain control of your finances!
